Highway 8 De-Tour

September 17 or 18

What would summer (and fall) in Minnesota be without art fairs and…road construction???

Even the beautiful and scenic St. Croix River Valley is subject to road construction, but don’t let that dissuade you from heading to Taylors Falls and St. Croix Falls for some great pottery, theatre and scenery.

Highway 8 may be closed between Highway 95 and Taylors Falls, but the car detour onto Tern Avenue will take your directly to Peter Jadoonath Backyard Pottery Sale. Peter and his friends and fellow potters Jason Trebs, Joe Singewald, Mike Helke and Sarah Dudgeon will have beautiful, hand-crafted pottery for sale out back by Peter’s studio and kiln. Chat with the artists, eat some pie and buy some amazing functional pottery. This is one stop definitely worth the detour.

While in Taylors Falls, take the opportunity to see one of the best places in Minnesota and Wisconsin for fall colors—the St. Croix River. Taylors Falls Scenic Boat Tours offers popular narrated tours of this nationally-recognized wild and scenic river and include information about the unique geology found in this part of the Upper Midwest. Want to spend a little more time on the river, check out their Sunday Fall Bruch cruise and special dinner Leaf cruises.

Across the river in St. Croix Falls, don’t miss Festival Theatre’s production of My Name is Rumpelstiltskin. The play, adapted by Vera Morris from the traditional fairy tale, will delight old and young alike. A cast of professional actors and youth performers from the area will transport the audience to an enchanted forest to see if the cranky wizard can be bested by a young girl.
