The major art fairs that anchor the other three weekends of Take Me to the River offer exciting, energetic art experiences. But sometimes a more intimate art opportunity is just around the corner. September 17-19 is great time to explore subtler events.

Starting in Stillwater at Four Artists at Terra Incognita.

Art lovers new and old will encounter a variety of painting, pottery, printmaking and photography behind the garden walls at Terra Incognita, the studio of artist Joseph Samuelson. Joe – a painter, pottery and arts educator – will be joined by potter and photographer Paul Randall, printmaker Diana Hatchitt and textile artist Kristen Kaas. 

Four Artists at Terra Incognita will be open Friday, September 17-Sunday, September 19 from 10am-5pm each day. Terra Incognita is located at 1019 N. 2nd Street, Stillwater, MN.

Heading North to River Valley Potters – Three locations

Host potters Nick Earl, Peter Jadoonath and Guillermo and Alana Cuellar are hosting dual online and in person pottery sales at three studio locations. Work by 17 artists will be featured in welcoming, primarily-outdoor settings not far from the scenic St. Croix River.

River Valley Potters in person sales will take place Friday, September 17-Sunday, September 19 from 10am-5pm each day. Studio sale locations are: Nick Earl Pottery, 16885 Square Lake Trail N., Stillwater, MN; Guillermo Cuellar Pottery, 18855 263rd Street, Shafter, MN; Peter Jadoonath Pottery, 30208 Tern Avenue, Shafer, MN.

Unique Art & Nature Experience at The Acreage

If you are out and about visiting artist studios on Saturday, September 18, head across the St. Croix to experience a unique art and nature experience at The Acreage. The property, part of the Horst Reschelbacher Foundation, features 350 acres of prairie, pasture and woodlands. Visitors will prairie restoration sites, pollinator habitats, and broad ranging collection of sculptures.

Art at the Acreage is free and open to the public, but advanced registration is highly encouraged. Registration link can be found online at takemetotheriver.info/acreage. Art at the Acreage will take place on Saturday, September 18 at 1-4pm at The Acreage at Osceola, 945 Pioneer Drive, Osceola, WI.

While You Are Here, Alan Honn Glass Studio and Al’s Center Saloon

Alan Honn Glass Studio in Center City is a great place to stop to see colorful hand-blown glass. The showroom features work by local restaurateur and artist Alan Honn, known as a glass cowboy for his solo glass blowing technique. Across the street check out Al’s Center Saloon for a burger (chicken and vegetarian options are also available), beer or whiskey.

Alan Honn Glass Studio, 320 Summit Avenue, Center City, MN, is open Fridays and Saturdays, 12-6pm. Al’s Center Saloon, 325 Summit Avenue, Center City, MN, is open daily 11am-midnight, dine in and take out are both available.
